December 13, 1887 – September 2, 1964

A Reluctant Warrior
Corporal Alvin C. York didn’t set out to be a soldier.
A man of deep faith, he initially struggled with the idea of war. But once he committed to serve, he did so with discipline, humility, and an unshakable sense of duty.
The Meuse-Argonne
On October 8, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, York’s unit came under intense fire from German machine gun nests.
Casualties mounted quickly.
Leadership was lost.
York stepped up.
One Man Against the Guns
- Took command after his superiors were killed
- Advanced alone against multiple machine gun positions
- Eliminated enemy gunners with precision rifle fire
- Forced the surrender of over 100 German soldiers
Outnumbered and exposed…
He didn’t break.
He adapted—and overcame.
Quiet Strength
York never saw himself as a hero.
He returned home to a quiet life, carrying his story with humility rather than pride.
