Service to Country

Robert Allen Mainord, Jr. served 21 years in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Major. A proud Vietnam veteran, he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he earned a reputation for courage, leadership, and steadfast dedication to his soldiers and his nation.

During his career, he received:

  • Purple Heart
  • Bronze Star
  • Two Good Conduct Medals
  • And numerous additional awards for performance and service

His record reflects both physical sacrifice and exemplary leadership in some of the most challenging conditions of the war.


A Second Career in Teaching & Technology

After retiring from the Army, Major Mainord launched a second mission: building minds instead of battle plans.

For more than 20 years, he served as a professor at Lamar Institute of Technology, teaching:

  • Computer Programming
  • Electronics
  • Industrial Robotics

A lifelong learner, he earned multiple college degrees and was widely respected for his intelligence, discipline, and passion for education. Students and colleagues knew him as the guy who was always willing to explain, mentor, and share what he knew.


Family & Legacy

Robert was the son of Georgia Henrietta Evans and Robert Allen Mainord, Sr. He is survived by his sister, Gail Mainord Jordan, and her children, Robin Jordan Franks (Scott)Deanna Jordan Bresee (Tom), and Randy Jordan (Natalie), who carry forward his name and example.

He was laid to rest at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Sour Lake, Texas, with full honors recognizing a lifetime of service both in uniform and in the classroom.

  • To his students in Texas classrooms and labs
  • To his community as a mentor and example of discipline, curiosity, and humility

He reminds us that some veterans keep serving long after the shooting stops, turning battle-tested resilience into everyday guidance for the next generation.
