Veteran of the Day — Christmas Eve, 2025

Michael Joseph “Mike” Hanlon

United States Army
Vietnam War Veteran

Born: November 2, 1946 – Youngstown, Ohio
Passed: December 19, 2025
Age: 79

Service to Country

Michael Joseph Hanlon served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, part of the generation that carried America through one of its most complex and painful conflicts.

Mike served as a motor transport and supply specialist, moving troops, equipment, and supplies through rugged terrain under constant threat. His work ensured others could do theirs — the kind of service that rarely made headlines but was essential every single day.

Coming Home & Building a Life

After returning home, Mike settled back in northeastern Ohio, where he focused on providing for his family and building a stable life.

He spent more than 35 years in steel fabrication and plant maintenance, earning a reputation for arriving early, staying late, and taking pride in doing things the right way. He believed work was a responsibility, not a complaint.

Family, Faith & Christmas Traditions

Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Christmas was essential to him — not for gifts, but for having everyone home.

He was known for:

  • making sure the lights were hung just right
  • waking up early to start coffee on Christmas morning
  • quietly checking that everyone had what they needed

Like many Vietnam veterans, he didn’t talk much about the war, but his values — loyalty, discipline, and responsibility — were felt every day in his home.

Veteran Brotherhood

Mike remained quietly proud of his service and stayed connected to fellow veterans through local VFW gatherings and community events, valuing shared understanding over ceremony.

He believed deeply in remembering those who didn’t make it home, especially during the holidays.

🌟 Reflection

Christmas Eve carries a different weight for many Vietnam veterans.
Some spent it far from home.
Some came home changed.
Most carried the memories quietly.

Michael Joseph Hanlon embodies that generation — veterans who served when asked, returned home without applause, and built lives centered on family, work, and responsibility.
