Service to Country
Barry J. Jezewski proudly served the United States as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He carried that service with steady pride, and those who knew him say he held deep respect for all who wore the uniform.
Life After Vietnam
After returning home, Barry built a life defined by hard work, family, and community. He spent many years with Home Depot, retiring as a department head after a long run of dedicated service.
He also devoted years to coaching grade-school sports, guiding kids with patience and a genuine love for the game.
Barry was a true sports fanatic, loyal to Chicago teams… with one exception that made him famous in the family: not the Cubs.
And when he wanted peace and quiet, he grabbed a fishing pole. Barry loved fishing and took joy in any chance to be out casting.
Veteran Brotherhood
One of Barry’s most meaningful experiences was traveling to Washington, D.C. on an Honor Flight with his son Joseph.
He was also a member of the East Hazel Crest American Legion Post 1139, staying connected to fellow veterans and that bond of shared service.
Family
Barry is survived by his loving wife Shirley; his children Joseph (Amanda), Christine (Kevin), and Kevin (Mandy); his grandchildren Branden, Emma, Alexis, Ashley, Noah, Zachary, Carter, and Evelyn; his sister Cheryl; and many nieces and nephews.
Final Honors
Funeral services were held with burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the cemetery memorial squad.
🌟 Reflection
Barry Jezewski represents the kind of Vietnam veteran whose legacy is written in the everyday things: showing up for work, coaching kids, loving his family, respecting other veterans, and finding peace with a fishing pole in hand.
