Service & Sacrifice

Lowell G. Einarson served as a Shipfitter & Metalsmith 2nd Class aboard Detachment CAT LO, a support unit of NAVSUPACT Saigon under USNAVFORV during the Vietnam War. On September 1, 1966, at the age of 28, he died in service — not from hostile action but reportedly of a heart attack while in a hospital in Vung Tau, Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. His name is inscribed on Panel 10E, Line 59 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.


Hometown Roots – Bantry, North Dakota

Lowell hailed from Bantry, a small community in McHenry County, North Dakota. He was the son of Joseph and Sophie Einarson (formerly Arnason) of Icelandic descent.
Growing up on the family farm outside Bantry, he helped with chores and looked after his younger sister Marilyn. After graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, dedicating his life to service — and ultimately making the supreme sacrifice while supporting his country overseas.


Legacy & Remembrance

Lowell Einarson’s service reminds us that sacrifice takes many forms — not only on the front lines, but also in support roles far from home. His life speaks of duty, care for family, and quiet courage.
His memory continues to be honored in North Dakota and across the nation.
