Dakota Meyer
Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps
War in Afghanistan
Into the Fire—Again and Again
Dakota Meyer didn’t wait for orders.
When his team was ambushed in the mountains of Afghanistan during the Battle of Ganjgal (2009), the situation turned catastrophic fast.
Heavy fire.
Limited support.
Men cut off.
Meyer made a choice.
Then made it again.
And again.
Five Trips Into Hell
• Entered a kill zone five separate times
• Drove through intense enemy fire to recover wounded teammates
• Helped evacuate dozens of personnel
• Recovered the bodies of fallen comrades
Each trip could have been the last.
He kept going anyway.
Medal of Honor
Dakota Meyer became one of the first living Marines in decades to receive the Medal of Honor.
Legacy
His actions weren’t about recognition.
They were about something simpler—and heavier:
No one gets left behind.
“He went back—because others couldn’t.”
