VETERAN OF THE DAY
CPL JAMES WALTER BISHOP
United States Army
Korean War
Missing in Action
Today we honor Corporal James Walter Bishop, a soldier of the United States Army who answered the call during the Korean War.
When war erupted on the Korean Peninsula in June 1950, young Americans were sent into rugged mountains, brutal winters, and some of the most difficult combat conditions of the twentieth century. Corporal Bishop served as a non-commissioned officer, a leader entrusted with the welfare and discipline of the men under his command.
During the conflict, CPL Bishop became Missing in Action.
For families, MIA is not simply a classification. It is years of unanswered questions. It is hope that lingers quietly. It is a name spoken at reunions and remembered at holidays.
More than 7,500 American service members from the Korean War remain unaccounted for. Efforts continue through the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to identify and return those still missing. Advances in forensic science and DNA technology continue to bring long-awaited answers to families across the nation.
Corporal James Walter Bishop stood his post in defense of freedom. Though his final resting place is unknown, his sacrifice is not forgotten.
We remember his courage.
We honor his service.
We preserve his legacy.
