HONORING HIS SERVICE
On January 30, 1968, Lance Corporal Ronald Lee Dyer was killed in action while serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Republic of Vietnam.
LCpl Dyer served with the 3rd Marine Division during one of the most volatile weeks of the Vietnam War. January 1968 saw escalating enemy movement and mounting tension throughout I Corps. Just hours before the Tet Offensive would erupt nationwide, Marine units in Quang Tri Province were already engaged in fierce combat operations along the DMZ corridor.
Operating in terrain that offered little protection and constant uncertainty, LCpl Dyer stood his post during a period that would become one of the defining moments of the war.
At just 20 years old, he made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country.
IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS
From home soil to the rugged battlefields of northern Vietnam, Ronald Lee Dyer represents the quiet courage carried by young Marines who answered the call without hesitation.
He was 20.
His name is permanently engraved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., ensuring that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
We speak his name so history remembers what courage looks like.
