HONORING HIS SERVICE

On January 25, 1968, Lance Corporal Johnny Ray Mills was killed in action while serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Republic of Vietnam.

LCpl Mills served with M Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, part of the 3rd Marine Division operating in Quang Tri Province, one of the most dangerous regions of the war during January 1968 as fighting intensified across northern I Corps.

At only 18 years old, he gave his life in service to his country. His sacrifice is permanently recorded on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and his name lives on through the remembrances left by others who refuse to let him be forgotten.

IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS

From Matoaka, West Virginia, to the battlefields of Vietnam, Johnny Ray Mills represents the young Americans who stepped into history before they’d even had a chance to fully live theirs.

We honor him today not just as a Marine, but as a son, a fellow American, and a name that deserves to be spoken out loud.
