Service and Sacrifice
Captain John F. Young served as a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), operating in the Mekong Delta during a period of escalating enemy activity just weeks before the Tet Offensive. Special Forces teams worked far from large bases, advising and fighting alongside allied forces in isolated areas where danger was constant and support was limited.
On January 16, 1968, Captain Young was killed in action in An Giang Province while serving on operations with his unit. His loss came during a critical buildup to Tet, when enemy forces were probing and positioning across South Vietnam.
John F Young served his country during the Vietnam War, giving his all in the line of duty. He had enlisted in the United States Army. Entered the service via Regular Military. He began his tour on 27 July 1967. Young had the rank of Captain. Service number assignment was Of105887. Attached to Special Forces, A-411.
He was born on 22 April 1938. According to our records Connecticut was his home or enlistment state and Fairfield county has been included within the archival record.
