MASTER SERGEANT DANIAL R. ADAMS

Master Sergeant Danial R. Adams was born on December 19, 1975, and was a proud Oregon native. He joined the United States Army in 1995 as an infantryman, beginning a distinguished 16-year military career defined by honor, courage, and devotion to his fellow soldiers.

In 2005, he earned the coveted Green Beret, becoming a member of the elite U.S. Army Special Forces. At the time of his death, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based in Stuttgart, Germany.

On September 13, 2011, while serving in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom, Master Sergeant Adams was killed in action at the age of 35. He died from enemy small-arms fire sustained during combat operations. Known affectionately by his teammates as “Slim”, Adams was admired for his quiet professionalism, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty to his brothers-in-arms.

Throughout his distinguished career, Master Sergeant Adams completed some of the Army’s toughest training, including Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, and the Special Forces Qualification Course. His numerous decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and other honors recognizing his service and sacrifice.

He is survived by his wife Melany, his sons John and Jeffrey, and his daughter Skye, as well as his parents Penny and James Adams of Hillsboro, Oregon.

Master Sergeant Danial R. Adams will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and warrior who lived by the highest ideals of the United States Army and the Special Forces creed.
